I DO NOT MAKE UP LIGHTING WITH A WIRING HARNESS AS ALL MODELS ARE DIFFERENT.

ALL LIGHTING MENTIONED BELOW HAVE TRUE COLOURS.

THE NEWEST AND THE MOST INTENSE IN MY RANGE OF LIGHTING

This is an amazingly intense light measuring 8mm diam x 5mm high from base to top of dome. Bench tested for 8 hours a day for 2 months for durability and running temperature. Also tested by modellers before release. They will operate on the tested voltages of 4.8v - 6v by using (as all lighting devices sold by Lighting for Aeromodellers) a resistor to lower the voltage to that required for the device to operate at maximum brilliancy and efficiency - (this IS essential). The resistor used is slightly larger than those used with standard types, due the current used for the very high intensity light produced by these devices. Well worth the slight extra cost for such a powerful lighting device. Comes with 6" (150mm) power supply wires already attached.

AVAILABLE FOR 4.8V & 6V ONLY

ANGLES OF VIEW = WHITE 110 DEGS RED& GREEN 130

State voltage you intend to operate these lights.

This photograph shows a jet powered REAPER fitted with the new SUPERLIGHTS

Model by Paul Ellingham.
Photograph COPYRIGHT of Paul Ellingham

RED WHITE and GREEN. DOME STYLE: 8mm diameter x total height 7mm and comes with the lighting device ready wired with 6 inch "tails". Really excellent intensity.

A heatsink IS NOT required with these devices as a specified resistor is used to lower the supply voltage to that of the device requirements. State voltage you intend to operate them on.
Operates on 4.8v 6v only

IMPROVED '5 CHIP' HIGH INTENSITY DEVICE

Available in RED, GREEN and WHITE and well suited to the average size models including helicopters.
The earlier types were the popular with modellers - so these new types should be equally popular. - and if too large for your purposes the 3mm set mentioned below should be ok.

The shape of this NEW lighting device is the same as the standard LED we are all used to. There, however, the similarity ends, for these 5 chip types are VERY very intense - 18,000 TO 25,000 MCD.

State the voltage the lights will be operated from.

This type of device has rapidly become the basic standard for lighting with its greater intensity and wider angle of view than the old standard types.

By using a resistor to lower the voltage to the voltage required for the device to operate at maximum brilliancy and efficiently - (this IS essential). The resistor used is slightly larger than those used with the old type HYPERLIGHTS due the current used for the very high intensity light produced by these devices.

They will operate on the usual voltages from 4.8v - 6v

The lighting devices that fit these reflectors do not require enhancing. They are intense enough.
The reflectors are NOT sold to enhance brilliancy but as a scale reflector accessory. They do, however, appear to make the light appear larger.

TWO types of REFLECTORS available to fit 5mm (incl HYPER) AND 3mm SPOT types. They are really well made chromed plastic. A very neat accessory that makes landing lights "scale".

Reflector size for BOTH 5mm and 3mm lighting devices is as follows:
Bowl max diameter is 12mm and the total length of the reflector from front face to collar rear face is 8mm. The bowl is a highly polished "chrome" plastic and enhances the fitted light quite effectively. The front face has a lip to allow placement of an acetate lens cover. Outstanding when used with either the 3mm size lighting devices or the 5mm devices mentioned above.

Other types (look like torch reflectors) 14 mm 24mm AND a 40mm (high polish finish) available. (These will accept 5mm type devices as a loose fit.)

It should be noted however, these reflectors (14 mm and 24mm DO NOT FIT the SUPERLIGHT, ULTRALIGHTS OR POWERLIGHTS (See below) due their leads being axial and probable short circuits may occur if leads touch metal reflector. The 40mm plastic reflector will not allow these lights to sit properly due their axial leads The SQUARE 70/80 type devices also do not fit.)

Another great set of lighting devices superb for landing lights and navigation lights for the average sized model. They may be operated on 4.8v or 6v.
They have a very wide angle of view (100 degs+ and push out an amazing 80 lumens!.
Available in RED GREEN and WHITE 9mm overall diameter with the dome 7mm diameter by 3mm high. Total height of device 6mm. They come ready mounted on a small pcb board 17mm x 10mm x 1mm thick - ready wired with 6 "tails". The two larger holes are for mounting the light/plate if required.

A heatsink IS NOT required with this device. (They come with a resistor to operate on the voltage YOU choose - BUT state voltage you intend to operate them on).

This PLASTIC chromed reflector is PURPOSE MADE for POWERLIGHTS ONLY.

Whilst the POWERLIGHT really does not need a reflector- it is very powerful without - A reflector with a landing light is usually required for scale appearances.THESE ARE THE ONLY types that will allow a POWERLIGHT to be fitted.

The POWERLIGHT SNAPS INTO PLACE from the rear of the reflector WITHOUT SHORT CIRCUITING THE LIGHTING DEVICE.(The Powerlight has two small AXIAL contacts coming from its base. These foul the sides of some metal reflectors).

Front of bowl 26mm. Rear of bowl 8mm. Front to back measures 16.5mm.

The reflector can however accomodate 8mm/10mm lighting of the typical LED standard shape it can also accomodate the DOMED ULTRALIGHT -by "fiddling" - i.e using silicone adhesive etc as a mounting.

SUPERLIGHTS - HYPERLIGHTS - POWERLIGHTS and ULTRALIGHTS, are the most intense lights in small package lighting for modelling purposes and are used for outdoor advertising and in traffic signal management as well as other uses requiring high visibility. ALL are of exceptional intensity, have water clear lens. They are all outstanding sets of NAV LIGHTS showing TRUE COLOURS with superb, brilliant white landing lights.

The installation of 5mm HYPER type lights AND 3mm types will require YOU to solder a resistor to connecting wires and the wires to the lighting device - a very simple job for a modeller to perform.
The SUPERLIGHTS, ULTRALIGHTS and POWERLIGHTS will come with connecting power leads already soldered to them. YOU will have to solder resistors where required.

In addition to the lighting devices shown above, the following different types of Navigation Lights and Landing Lights are available for every type of model aircraft or helicopter. They operate on the usual voltages from 4.8v 6v. One or two of the white high intensity type are also very useful for orientation when one is fitted as a rearward facing tail light.

SQUARE Light 70/80 (7mm x 7mm)

RED-GREEN-WHITE Navs and Landing light have an 80 degree angle of view. Approx 3000 MCD.

WHITE 5mm diameter SPOT

NEW UPRATED HIGH INTENSITY rating and wide 70 degree angle of view. Ideal for a tail light.

3mm DIAMETER TYPES
- A VERY INTENSE SET -

These are high MCD types. ( RED, GREEN WHITE ) The latter very suitable for models requiring nosewheel or engine cowling mounted landing lights (Cessna or other types) - or, main/nose oleo lights or even wingtip white "strobes" and small wingtip navigation lights. Ideal for fitting into helicopter stub wings on rear of fuselages (Agusta 109 etc.,)

All colours are TRUE COLOURS with a very crisp white - all with excellent angles of view coupled with high intensity, and are quite difficult to find, as most intense lighting devices have a narrow angle of view.

NOTE: SUPERLIGHTS/HYPERLIGHTS/ULTRALIGHTS/POWERLIGHTS if not controlled by a resistor when battery operated or a special pcb circuit if a regulated voltage is used, can run quite hot. These lighting devices now included the appropriate voltage/wattage resistor for cool operations FROM 4.8V TO 7.2. You just connect them up to the device and power supply as per the leaflet/diagram that comes with the devices.
ALL the above lights ARE intense lights AND TRUE COLOUR at a reasonable price.
Nothing simpler.

PLEASE STATE OPERATING VOLTAGE (usually 4.8v or 6v). RESISTORS are required to lower your choosen voltage to that required by the lighting device. Resistors are INCLUDED IN THE PRICES QUOTED

These are the best NAVIGATION and LANDING LIGHTS as hundeds of modellers have already found out.

COMMON NAV LIGHT POSITIONS

Surprisingly, quite a number of modellers seem not to be aware of positions and operation of lighting on aircraft and ask me with what lighting their particular model should be fitted!

I think researching YOUR particular model is the answer.

The positions shown above are fairly common. However..lighting positions DO vary from aircraft to aircraft EXCEPT for NAVIGATION LIGHTING (RED-GREEN-WHITE tailight).

IF a HELI is fitted with rear fuselage "winglets" (Agusta 109) then these may have NAV LIGHTS on them and also have white flashing strobes fitted.

FLEXI STRIP SURFACE MOUNT LIGHTING
AVAILABLE IN RED, GREEN and WHITE. - SUPER BRIGHT AND THIN!

These are NOT standard LEDS mounted on a strip but surface mount components.
Photo above shows strips mounted on new MIKROKOPTER frame and powered by a LiPo battery. Segments will operate from any 6v+ to 12v battery. Full strip (24 lights) need 12v.

Available in strips of 3/6/12/18/24 lighting devices and only 2mm thick! Brilliant lights as shown in photo above.

This small and lightweight board measures (1.5 inches X 3/4 inch) or approx 40mm X 20mm.
The LED booster typically boosts an input voltage of 1.5volts to an output voltage of 3 volts – sufficient to power an LED or other small components. The LED booster operates at a very low current level and can give a new lease of life to what otherwise might be regarded as 'flat' batteries.
Ideal for a small model when just a landing light or - a SINGLE FLASHER UNIT as mentioned below - is required.
IT'S READY MADE.
All you have to do is fit the lighting device/connecting wires to board and add a single AA battery and a small on/off switch.
PRICED AT £4 .50 INCLUDING 5mm HIGH INTENSITY LIGHT & SINGLE AA BATTERY HOLDER.

FERRITE RINGS. High inductive ferrite ring, very compact. Used as high pass filter on servo leads. You should wind the servo lead at least 5, or better still, 7 times through this ring. This type is preferred for mounting cables to minimize HF-impact on RC-components. You should mount where the cable is attached.
Allows a JR -Hitec or Futaba type plug to fit through.

WARNING! HIGH INTENSITY LIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE STARED INTO (PARTICULARLY THE SUPERLIGHT,ULTRALIGHTS, POWERLIGHTS and SEARCHLIGHT and HYPER TYPES MENTIONED ABOVE) WHICH IN SOME QUARTERS, ARE VIEWED AS OF THE CLASS 2 LASER SPECS!. THEY ARE VERY POWERFUL FOR THEIR SIZE AND SHOULD BE VIEWED FROM AT LEAST 10 FEET AWAY AND THEY SHOULD CERTAINLY NEVER EVER BE LOOKED AT, IF HAND HELD, NEITHER SHOULD THEY BE DIRECTLY POINTED AT OTHER PEOPLE'S EYES AND CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED NEAR THEM OR ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH THEM.

Robust ON/OFF switches.

HEATSHRINK TUBING.

This IS THE essential item you should use for wiring connection insulation - NOT sticky black plastic/Sellotape/Decorators masking tape OR - (Shudder)-Elastoplaster(s)!! Several sizes from 1.3mm to 19.5mm.

They also fit HITEC and FUTABA receivers and servo sockets and can be secured for extra safety by heatshrink tubing of the correct diameter (5mm). Positive fitting - no slop - solid pins. As used in the electronics industry. MAX 3 amps.
No problem with lighting.

NOTE: A PP3 battery. . . (everybody calls it a 9v . . . it is not . . . it is 8.4v although some are starting to appear on the market as 9v/200 milliamps) Still not good enough to run the full kit of lighting for a model. Use 4.8v pack with at least 1200 milliamps.

ROUND or ELLIPTICAL.
ROUND TYPES diameters are 10mm 15mm 20mm 25mm and 30mm.

ELLIPTICAL TYPES
25mm x 16mm

Small enough to be placed behind panels such as radio or other electronic equipmentto give an authentic light display. Ideal for heli instrumen panels. No other colours are made.
£3.60 a six pack mixed or two of each or all one colour

YES! The fitting of lighting is very simple. Lighting devices have a useful life of thousands of hours when run at their correct operating voltage and fitted properly.

PLEASE NOTE.

Not all devices may be suitable for your model.

For instance, some Helicopters have Nav Lights set into the tips of wing stublets from the fuselage. These stub tips may be too thin to accomodate the Ultralights or PowerLights or 5mm diameter Standard and HYPERS or the Super 70/80 7mm x 7mm types. CENTURY/FUNKEY .30 size Agusta 109 (CN1073) being one type. However - They WILL accept the INTENSE 3mm diameter RED AND GREEN types available when tip position drilled out. (Ticklish job this)..Thin fixed wing wingtips could be another problem.

BEFORE considering lighting for your model you should send for details. Full details (NOT just prices) of ALL Types are contained in the PDF and mailed printed details. You ARE advised to read them to avoid mistakes.

High intensity type LEDs have a focussed light, and should be treated with due caution for your eyes. NEVER stare into a high power light or you will suffer irritated eye(s) for a number of days!

If you are building a scale model, then it should be fitted with lighting if the original was also fitted with it. . . and even if it is not a scale job, your model will look all the better by having lights.

If you ARE thinking of fitting lighting to your scale model (or any other type of model, be it fixed wing or helicopter), then do not wait too long before fitting lighting (it can be difficult to do when the model is completed)

Many modellers have told me they are out of their depth when dealing with lighting and associated wiring (or as some say) "not used to electricity"!

IF YOU CAN CONNECT A BATTERY to a couple of points, then you CAN fit lighting to your model! It's that easy. You will find the leaflets and diagrams that come with your order easy enough to follow, enabling you to set up your lighting properly. These are in no way "flat pack" type instructions! All you have to do is read them!

Hundreds of modellers have already installed this lighting. It's simple, it's easy and using the SUPERLIGHTS, ULTRA, POWERLIGHTS, or HYPER Landing and Navigation light or the standard SPOT landing Light and/or Super 70/80 Nav and Landing Lights - your lighting will be brilliant.
Remember - It is much easier to install lighting in a model when it is being constructed rather than when it is built.

If you are "scratch building" from plans then life is a lot easier!

With so many foam wings in kits today, some already veneered, or veneering left for you to do, figuring out the lighting wiring can take time. However, foam wings have been fitted with lighting wiring quite successfully. As far as SCALE helicopters go, these can be a bit fiddly to do depending on the model.

Many more items are available to you when you send for the lighting illustrated facts and prices. Meanwhile, here's a sample of good quality INTENSE lighting. . . several items of which are used in outdoor advertising and traffic control management systems.

ALL lighting purchases are accompanied by SIMPLE diagrams with simple instructions so that the modeller can fit the lighting with ease.

REMEMBER - although we are only dealing battery power here you should pay as much attention to installing your lighting as you do building the model. HOWEVER - It IS essential that the modeller reads the instructions first. . .AND follow them and accompanying SIMPLE drawings/diagrams for a trouble free lighting installation.

Advice BEFORE and AFTER you buy (although, if you read the instructions that come with the goods you should not need to ask AFTER you buy!). ALSO, if you ARE building a SCALE model, do research the original. . .it all helps.

NO expensive gimmicks to make the lights work. Simple to set up.

You could not ask for a better specification than these. If you want VERY high intensity lighting of high quality then a set of Nav lights and Landing Lights by Lighting for Aeromodellers should be your choice.. Wide angles of view with very high intensity (especially when you use a fully charged battery!!)

SEND FOR PDF OR MAILED DETAILS OF ALL LIGHTING AVAILABLE.

See below.

These are THE lights modellers have been looking for - for years. They are superb, very high intensity lights produced for the electronics industry. Even the most critical of modellers should be pleased with.

Due some of the uprated & latest lighting mentioned below using a fair amount of current draw - (350 to 750 milliamps) -lighting is
ONLY SUITABLE FOR 4.8V and 6V of 1200-2000mA & above as a larger more expensive power resistor has to be installed for LIPO's and would make the cost of light considerably more.

From a flight safety point of view and the possibility of a short circuit draining the pack with possible dangerous consequences - I do not advocate using the same battery pack for lighting and receiver/servos etc.,

THEN - Treat yourself to some decent lighting.

Reading about - and seeing what you are going to require is the best bet. . . it saves time and trouble (especially if you get it wrong!)
The printed details contain everything you want to know - and more

Ordering "blind" from this page does NOT make things quicker or easier. Telephone calls and e-mails can help, but misunderstandings can (and do) occur, if ordering WITHOUT reading about what you want first (and checking its suitability for your model).

You will not be disappointed. You will be surprised as to what is available.
